motion tracking

Motion tracking is the hardest in my opinion of the 4 effects i'm showing you.

Once you've selected the clip you want to motion track you drag it to your timeline, then after that you add a mask over the face. When you have done that make sure the clip is at the start of the timeline, right click and click "track motion".

a small collection of boxes appear on your screen, you then drag the crosshairs to the point to where you want the motion to be tracked. You then drag the smaller box over the crosshair, this is used as search regions, they make sure that the motion track is staying within the marked area.

After you have done that a tracker panel will appear in the bottom right of the screen
click the analyse forward button, every time you click it the clip will move one frame at a time, finish the whole clip and it will track where the crosshair is in every frame of the clip.

Now you have tracked it, now you need to put something there, so go to the layer tab at the top of the screen and new new, null object.
a tab will appear on the timeline this is your null object.

On the tracker panel on the bottom right, click edit target, once you have clicked it a box will appear with a drop down box, click the drop down box and click the one that says null object, click okay then apply it on the tracker panel.

Now you need to find what you want it to be tracked, i personally chose a red dot that is on the end of a gun. So when you find that on google you bring it into after effects and drag it down into the timeline.  In your layer panel you should see an icon that looks like a swirl.
This is called the "Pick whip". what i does it pair things to each other, and what we want to do is pair the image to the track in order to move the image.  So what you need to do is click the pick whip and drag it to the null object. When you let go and press play the clip should play with the image following the track.
